Fehmarn Innovation Link will be on of the themes at the annual European Green Week in Brussels at the hybrid event "Skills for Green Infrastructure". The event is organised by the Nordic EU offices and focuses on education and skills to realise the future decades of green transition.

Fehmarn Innovation Link was opened on 1 September 2022 in Rødbyhavn with the aim of making Denmark a world leader in green and sustainable mega-infrastructure by bringing together the experiences from the Fehmarn project and making that knowledge available to a wider circle of Danish companies, educational institutions and business promotion actors.

One of the speakers at the event in Brussels, which is aimed at the European building and construction industry, will be Stig Rømer Winther, CEO Femern Belt Development, one of the number of organisations behind the Fehmarn Innovation Link.

"Fehmarn Innovation Link is an exciting initiative that we are happy to present in a European context. The knowledge and learning centre is a unique example of how knowledge about green and sustainable construction, gained in a construction project such as the Fehmarnbelt Link, can be utilised in connection with other future international mega projects and thus contribute to the green transition," says Anna Haaland Wittenberg, EU Chief Advisor, Greater Copenhagen EU Office, who is helping to organise the event.

CEO Stig Rømer Winther welcomes the European interest in Fehmarn Innovation Link.

"We are experiencing an ever-increasing interest in the knowledge and learning centre from the Danish and German sides and welcome this opportunity to spread our message to an even larger geography. This will increase the opportunities for Fehmarn Innovation Link to strengthen the position of Danish construction companies and the vision of making Denmark a world leader in green mega-infrastructure," says Stig Rømer Winther.

Facts about Fehmarn Innovation Link
The knowledge and learning centre, Fehmarn Innovation Link, aims to strengthen the innovation agenda within sustainable construction and mega infrastructures. This is done in collaboration between companies, knowledge institutions and students, where the location close to Northern Europe's largest construction project - the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link - provides unique opportunities to develop and test new sustainable solutions.  The activities in Fehmarn Innovation Link are carried out in collaboration between Femern Belt Development, Business Hub Zealand, Technical University of Denmark, Roskilde University, Danish Technological Institute, Zealand Business Academy, WE BUILD DENMARK, Odense Robotics and the vocational schools in Region Zealand and are part of the Business Lighthouse for sustainable construction and business development based on the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link.

The Business Lighthouse is one of the eight Business Lighthouses initiated by the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs and the Danish Business Promotion Board to develop new positions of strength.

The Business Lighthouse is funded by REACT-EU funds.

Background of the event
The Nordic countries are expected to have a shortage of around 350,000 skilled employees by 2030. The event will focus on how we can ensure a skilled labour force to implement the green transition, also by including innovation cooperation on green infrastructure solutions. At the event, speakers will present cases from Norway, Finland, Denmark and Sweden, followed by a panel discussion. Representatives from EUROCITIES and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion will also participate.
