The Fehmarn Belt Committee will lead in the creation of a joint Danish-German vision for the future Fehmarn Belt region.

The decision follows the gathering of the committee at the new center “Fehmarn Innovation Link” in Rødbyhavn, where there is focus on making the Fehmarn tunnel factory permanent, on new forms of energy and sustainable construction.

"These are areas in which there is much interest and where, together with the Fehmarn project and parallel initiatives such as the Fehmarn Innovation Link, major steps have already been taken towards making the Fehmarn Belt region a world leader in the production of green infrastructure," says the vice-chairman of Fehmarn Belt Committee, mayor Holger Schou Rasmussen.

Development of new forms of energy

Holger Schou Rasmussen points to the significant opportunities for innovation and growth as a spin-off of the Fehmarn project.

"The energy crisis is creating opportunities for the development of new forms of energy. The tunnel factory in Rødbyhavn can play a significant role as a producer of elements for the offshore wind farms of the future, with green, sustainable production methods that have been developed on the basis of the experience gained from the tunnel production," says Holger Schou Rasmussen.

Collaboration and joint projects

The Fehmarn Belt Committee has therefore decided to draw up a vision for the future of Fehmarn Belt region.

"We will look at the competences that are already present in the joint Danish-German region, and how we can further use collaborations and joint projects to contribute to promoting growth and development to create a future region of great potential. Once we have formulated this vision, we will have a roadmap for our Danish-German community," says Holger Schou Rasmussen.

Holger Schou Rasmussen will meet with the chairman of the Fehmarn Belt Committee, County Commissioner of Kreis Ostholstein, Reinhard Sager, in the near future to initiate work on creating a united vision for the future Fehmarn Belt Region.
