The Schleswig-Holstein transport minister, Claus Ruhe Madsen, wants to see more speed on the German land works of the Fehmarn project.

"We still have time, but we have to speed-up," he says to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

Femern A/S is responsible for the construction of the entire tunnel under the Fehmarn Belt and the associated facilities on the Danish side, while the infrastructure on the German side, e.g. the rail connection and road construction, including a new tunnel under the Fehmarn Sound to replace the current bridge, is a German matter.

The Danes are well underway

"The Danes have already come a long way in the project and have a lot of work going on," says Claus Ruhe Madsen and mentions the construction of the tunnel factory in Rødbyhavn, business areas and plans for new tourist areas.

"Our neighboring country to the north, tends to see opportunities in a project, while we, on the other hand, have a tendency to see problems and not solutions," says the Schleswig-Holstein transport minister to the German press agency.

He encourages the northern Germans to involve themselves more intensively with the possibilities that a faster connection between Copenhagen/Malmö and Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg entails.

Several large projects in Germany

By 2029, the train line between Lübeck and Puttgarden needs to be upgraded, and the national road, Bundesstraße 207, expanded.

At the same time, a new tunnel must be built under the Fehmarn Sound to replace the current bridge, which will be renovated and preserved as a thoroughfare for pedestrians, cyclists and slow vehicles.
